Wolwedans

...we've all heard about Wolwedans...the Private Lodge hidden far far away in the Namib Desert...

...where Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt go on vacation everytime they visit Namibia...

...its also one of the most expensive places to stay in our country, Way WAy WAY above our budget...

So when we spotted the 70% Discount Advertisement in the Local Newspapers we booked without hesitation a weekend away...convinced that this opportunity would not represent itself twice!!

And off we went...Friday lunch hour we packed the Prado and headed for the Namib Rand Reserve, home of Wolwedans..not knowing how far it really is..

On The Road:
- plenty of Donkey Carts (no really,no other cars in sight)

-spectacular scenery

-our GPS - took us on a long detour and we had to try and find this place on our own (took us 7,5hrs) - but we made it

In the dark we finally arrived at Wolwedans Dunes Lodge..
Michiel; Lodge Manager (and friend) arranged some surprize specials for us..
WE GOT THE HONEYMOON SUITE PEOPLE!!!
(With our own star-gazing bed on the private veranda, kitchen and lounge) HOW LUCKY ARE WE!

Our honeymoon suite in back ground

The view from our bed
Different angle of suite

Check out the "Mirrow" - its a window view of the landscape...

Friday evening promised to have another great surprize -- our dinner table was set in the underground wine cellar, with candle light we enjoyed the divine 5 course meal served by our very own waiter, Chester.

It was so romantic!!

The food is excellent, prepared by master chefs!!

In the morning we woke to the most spectacular view - the suite sips open to all sides and the desert comes alive with brilliant golden lights. The Star-Gazing Bed was so inviting, we had to try it out and enjoyed our morning tea and freshly baked cookies in it while waiting for the sun to appear from behind the mountains.

After Breakfast on the sun deck we decided to go on a hike which ended in a 2,5hours/10km hike through the thick desert sand --loving the Oryx and Springbock a few feet away grazing, not being bothered by our presence.

Its all so peacefull.. Worries? What Worries? The Rat Race is long forgotten...

Ok, no wait, Gielie was worried about his paining hip and what his calves would feel like the next day..and we forgot to take water and hats along..pheew we were very happy once we spotted the lodge again in time for lunch and an afternoon nap...

SUN DOWNERS!!!

The Sun Downer was super fun - spending time with Michiel and his lovely Karley who is an American Volunteer Worker at Nadeet was very interesting and uplifting.

The Namib Rand is an intriguing window to experience the deserts elusive grandeur and breath taking beauty..

After Dinner at the lodge the four of us sat for hours around the fire chatting and drinking wine...

The cold south wind forced us to retire around midnight..

On Sunday Morning Gielie and I were sad to leave this magical place. The beauty we have experienced in this lanscape has kindled our spirits and has reminded us of our human insignificance..

Wolwedans you are very special and I recommend this place to my friends. The Namib Rand is a must see and the service, food and accomodation at Wolwedans is priceless!!
Kussi Good-Bye
